Introduction

       Laser shock peening is a surface treatment technique for aviation engine blade and other key structural components, which is developed in the United States in the late 20th century. It achieves a significant improvement in fatigue performance without changing the structural design, and has brought great economic and military benefits to a large number of in-service and in-research aircraft structures.
       When a short pulse laser of high-peak power density radiates a metal target, the metal surface absorbs the laser energy and undergoes explosive vaporization evaporation, generating a high-temperature, high-pressure plasma, which produced high-intensity pressure shock wave and acted on the metal surface and propagated internally. When the peak pressure of the shock wave exceeds the dynamic yield limit of the material, the surface of the material will produce strain hardening, with large residual compressive stress. (Known as laser shock peening).
